It's time we wake up to the importance of waste management. Unmanaged waste in residential developments has far-reaching, catastrophic effects on our environment and the planet as a whole. In fact, waste production has increased by 8% worldwide since 2001 alone! Unmanaged waste not only increases the amount of non-biodegradable and hazardous materials that require disposal but also emits harmful pollutants into the air. According to a report published by the World Bank in 2019, approximately 2.01 billion tons of municipal solid waste were generated globally in 2016 – an increase of around 70% since 1990 - and this figure is expected to rise even further without proper waste management systems in place.

Thankfully, solutions exist that can help reduce this environmental burden and make cities more sustainable. A key part of these solutions is building effective waste management systems which are capable of dealing with waste in a timely and efficient manner. Real estate developers need to consider integrating an intelligent waste management system within their developments to ensure that waste is managed and disposed of in a responsible way. One of the most important components of these waste management systems is waste segregation at a household level. Segregating waste makes it easier to reduce, reuse, and recycle waste instead of merely disposing of it in landfills or other hazardous areas. Not only does this help save resources by reducing wastage but also allows for better waste treatment methods such as composting which keeps our environment clean.

Effective waste management systems are essential for successfully combating climate change. Through segregation at the household level, waste can be recycled more efficiently. Waste treatment also becomes easier and more effective; waste that cannot be recycled is disposed of safely so that toxic materials do not leak into our atmosphere or groundwater resources. The result? A cleaner, healthier world with fewer emissions, less air pollution and ultimately reduced global warming effects. By creating awareness about waste segregation and implementing appropriate waste management solutions on a ground level, we have the potential to make a huge difference in protecting our environment. Fakhruddin Properties' latest development, Maimoon Gardens, for instance, employs a state-of-the-art waste management system that comprises recycling units below each residential tower, composting organic waste through segregation of separate wet and dry waste from the garbage chutes on each floor itself, which gets managed through a simple Push button system and claimable reward points which can be redeemed across facilities in the development, in order to encourage cultural and behavioural change.

Waste from residential developments could be anything from residential construction debris, electronic products and furniture, which are often not properly segregated or disposed of at a household level. If left unmanaged, this waste can lead to serious environmental consequences, including water pollution, air pollution and increased greenhouse gas emissions. To combat this issue, it is important to ensure that appropriate waste management solutions are implemented throughout different communities, both urban and rural. This includes ensuring strict segregation of various types of domestic waste materials so they can be recycled or disposed of safely.

In addition to waste segregation at the household level, waste management systems should also focus on providing appropriate waste treatment options. For instance, biodegradable waste can be composted using a composting system to create organic fertilizers and nutrient-rich soil for gardening and agricultural use. Non-biodegradable materials that cannot be recycled need to be sent to landfill sites or incinerated properly in order to avoid environmental contamination. By investing in efficient waste management solutions, we have the potential not only to reduce global warming effects but also to contribute towards creating a cleaner, safer future for generations to come.
